The excavations of Pompeii and Herculaneum. The archaeological excavations at Pompeii have brought to light the remains of the ancient city, near the hill of “Civita”, buried under a blanket of ash and lapilli during the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 d.C., along with Herculaneum, Stabiae and Oplontis. The excavations, which began at the behest of Charles III of Bourbon, are one of the best examples of Roman life, as well as the city’s best preserved of the time. In 1997, in order to preserve the integrity and stress its importance, the ruins, now owned by the Superintendence for Archaeological Heritage of Naples and Pompeii, along with those of Herculaneum and Oplontis, have become part of the list of humanity assests by UNESCO. The site of Pompeii, in the first decade of the new millennium was constantly visited by over two million people a year, in 2010 was found to be the second Italian archaeological site for number of visitors.

The only active volcano on the European mainland, it dominates and characterizes the Gulf of Naples. He has had numerous eruptions in its history, the most famous of which was that of 79 d. C. that destroyed Pompeii and Herculaneum; the last eruption occurred in 1944. The Vesuvius National Park today, is covered with lush vegetation and is famous for its grapes of which are reminiscent of exceptional wines such as the “Lacrima Christi”.

Thanks to the mild climate and the beauty of the landscape, Positano has been a resort since the days of the Roman Empire, as attested by the discovery of a villa and more recent discoveries, dating back to 2004. Typical of the many “steps” from the country that come down to the beach. The main beaches are the “Spiaggia Grande” and that of “Fornillo”, both within walking distance, others are “La Porta”, “Arienzo” and “San Pietro Laurito”, all accessible mainly by sea. The church dedicated to Our Lady of the Assumption is the treasure of this country, not coincidentally is considered one of the most beautiful churches in Italy. Going to these places nothing short of paradise, we meet Amalfi. It too offers tourists as enchanted place. All the beaches, except those located in front of the city can be reached by long flights of steps or by sea. In both cases it is a unique experience where the contact point is the nature. The most famous monument of Amalfi is certainly the Duomo in Arab-Sicilian style and currently dedicated to St. Andrew, the patron saint of the city. The equally enchanting Ravello, however, there are as many as 100 altars, of which currently only about forty consecrated. Lovely to see are also the palaces of the ancient families Ravello that, in general, have become hotels in the last century and a half. These are mainly located in the noble “rione del Toro” and follow the development of the town from “Piazza Fontana” to “Piazza Duomo”

Capri is an island that the whole world envies us, and there is no need to explain why. The coast of Capri is indented with numerous coves and bays that alternate with steep cliffs. The most famous is undoubtedly the “Blue Cave” in which magical lighting effects captivate anyone who has the opportunity to enjoy the beauty. Characteristic of Capri are the famous “Faraglioni”, three small rocky islets just off the shore create a spectacular visual effect and landscape. The island contains many plant and animal species, some endemic and rare, like the blue lizard that lives on one of the three Faraglioni. The vegetation is typically Mediterranean, with a prevalence of agaves, prickly pears and brooms. The summer night life of this island is very busy, Capri, in fact, is rich in exclusive clubs including the famous tavern “Anema e Core”, destination of many show business personalities. The island of Ischia, however, is famous for its thermal waters, well-known and used since ancient times. Its volcanic nature, in fact, makes the island one of the largest thermal places of the Europe. Springs, fumaroles, mud can be found almost on the entire territory, with well-equipped facilities and highly qualified where visitors will be able to completely regenerate.
